Producing Sustainable Photoshoots
Some photoshoots can be very... extra. It’s deeply rooted in the nature of the industry, particularly with food and plant products. A certain amount of excess is necessary to avoid the possibility of wasting time and therefore money. But Range Creative puts a lot of value on following sustainable practices as much as possible. We wanted to share some points we make to cut down on our carbon footprint and inquire about any suggestions you may have to improve our earth-friendly policy efforts.
Sustainability Initiatives in Photoshoot Production
LOVE LOCAL
It’s sometimes more expensive, but shopping for props locally whenever possible, especially produce and plants, reduces shipping requirements.
AVOID TRAVELING TO DISTANT LOCATIONS
In our experience, it’s much more efficient to ship products to a studio location than it is to ship a photographer, crew, talent, gear, and props, to the product’s location. Range Creative shoots are set up with live view galleries so that you can see the images in real time. You can rate, color code, and comment on favorite shots instantaneously. Choosing your selects with your team -however far apart you are- is a smooth and seamless process.
CARPOOL
For restaurant and retail shoots on location or in alternative studio spaces, we drive together in order to reduce emissions when it makes sense for the job.
DISPOSAL
We opt for compostable supplies and recyclable packaging whenever possible and our general policy discourages single use plastics on set.
DIGITAL CONTRACTS & DELIVERY
Our contracts are signed online and our images are delivered through the client portal. We do not ship prints, hard drives, or other physical storage for image delivery.
GREEN PARTNERS
Our on-set meals are ordered from organic and/or vegetarian sources whenever possible. In the event that we encounter materials requiring industrial composting, we are able to contribute this waste to Compost Now pickups.
What else can we do to better consider the planet in our production policies?
