July Studio Notes
What we loved in JUNE:
MOVIES & SHOWS
Manifest (Netflix) Reminds me of Lost, just not on a deserted island.
Daisy Jones and the Six (Amazon) Fictional rock and roll interview-style memoir. Camila is the real star of this tragic mini-series, but it’s not specifically about her. Some key themes similar to Maestro.
All Good Things (Netflix) Still not sure why I watched this. Glad to know the man it was based on -Robert Durst- actually died a couple years ago after being charged with additional murders.
The Crow (Amazon) They’re remaking one of my favorite cult classics of all time and I’m not loving the trailer for the new one, but I am pleased to be able to watch the old one. A brutal love story.
Jumanji (Netflix) Childhood favorite.
BOOKS

ARTISTS
Andreas Gursky - The first exhibition catalog that I ever picked out for myself was from the Andreas Gursky show at MoMA in 2001. I was in high school and after seeing the show, I just had to have this book. It was the most mesmerizing photography I had ever seen. Certainly the scale played a part, but there are so many visual elements that compound the effect of his work and I find myself reaching for this collection regularly from time to time.
Gerhard Richter - Forever a favorite. I’ve been revisiting Richter’s paintings over photographs lately. I relate to his layered ideas and perspective.
Ibrahim Azab - I recently came across the collage works of Azab, who is a curator and multifaceted artist based in London.
